Apple's upcoming iOS 26.4 update will introduce support for major AI chatbots within CarPlay. Users will soon be able to interact with assistants like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini directly through their car's infotainment system.

According to Apple's updated CarPlay developer guide, the new 'voice-based conversational app' entitlement enables these integrations. While developers will need to adapt their AI assistants for CarPlay, the current implementation will not grant these bots control over any vehicle functions or the driver's iPhone. Activation will require a tap on the app, not a "wake word."

Apple is providing developers with specific guidance to ensure these voice-based apps function safely, primarily focusing on voice interactions and avoiding text or imagery responses. This marks the first time Apple is allowing developers of such conversational apps to integrate with the CarPlay experience.
